What a year it's been and what lessons I have learnt. It's the tough years that make a difference and the ones that make the good times feel even better. Despite all the hard ships; this year has managed to take a complete 180 and I can honestly say I've felt happier over the last few months than I have in years. I finally found me again.

I'm going to look back through the year at the photographs I've taken and think about the moments I've collected - appreciate them; good or bad.

April 2017

'Walked around a beautiful nature reserve watching the sun set last night. My Dad forced me to take my camera out with me and even acted as a human tripod. This was something Mum used to do for me, she believed in me more than I believed in myself. I forgot how beautiful images can be, and how they can capture a moment and memories. I forgot how you have to go through tough shit to get one shot (like standing in boggy water in sandals, getting bitten by mites and climbing up mossy trees!) but I also forgot how much I LOVE photography and how I hid that for so long because of judgements and the loss of support, encouragement and confidence I got from Mum. I highly doubt this will spur me back into the place I was in 5-10 years ago, but it's a start! I felt more like me than I had in a long time! Thanks Dad.'

May 2017

During May I completed a project which I called PEDIM; Photo Every Day in May, meaning I would upload a picture to Flickr every single day in May. I lovedddd this project. I didn't force myself to take a new picture everyday; but I did upload new and old shots which was so much fun.

I began to fall back in love with this art form.

September 2017

3 tough months went by; during which my emotional and physical energy levels dropped and it wasn't till the end of September that I made the conscious choice to try this whole thing again; for real. My cousin and his fiancé asked me to take photographs at their wedding; and boy was I nervous , but I had so much fun and was so proud of the moments I captured for them.

Thank you so much Matt and Danni

October 2017

Blown Away; I am so grateful for all the support I received during this month. It didn't quite come from those I would have expected it to if you'd told me I was going to go through this in January, but it came from the right people and I am so pleased. Some of those people I see every week, some only every month or so, and some I haven't seen since then; but they all mean so much to me and I forgot how important having the energy to have those sorts of people in your life is!

November 2017

I travelled to Woking in November to shoot for Christina and Luke. Christina has been such an amazing friend and I was so honoured to take photos to celebrate their engagement! You can see my full blog post about that day here.

December 2017

Drawing the year to a close on a quieter front; I've been working hard on my blog this month and trying to build up a routine. Easier said than done when you're trying to juggle 3 jobs, but that being said I'm so happy and know that things will just continue to get better during 2018. I've tried my hand at a new editing styles and spent time searching for and completing projects; such as shooting for PODS and writing a blog post which can be found here.

Tune back in in the new year to hear all about my goals for the next 12 months!

Ylana x
