When Autumn turns to Winter

My Mother once told me a story; one which I later found out was false. I think she'd tell me a lot of little stories throughout the years, but I bet she never thought I'd remember them so vividly.

"I'm a Winter baby, born in November of 93 when the snow was falling hard. I was born in Newcastle and my parents had to drive me home to Peterborough through a snow storm when I was just over a day old. On the way back their car broke down and they ended up stuck on the side of a busy road, so only a day or so old I was wrapped tight in a blanket and carried through the storm to the nearest gas station to wait for help. I spent the whole time completely dead to world; sleeping, it didn't bother me at all.'

Only some of this is true; I was a winter baby born in November of 93 and I was born Newcastle, but there was no snow storm and no broken down car. Why she told me this story I will never know...

You'd think being a winter baby would make me at one with the cold weather, maybe even enjoy it; but I am actually constantly freezing cold and have terrible circulation in my hands and feet, even in summer. 24 years after that story book snow storm we have had no such snow fall for years. So I set my self the challenge of learning how to recreate snow using photoshop. I'm trying to develop my skills like I used to when I was at school, through experimentation and exploration of skills I already have and making them new and improved.

For a first attempt I'm SO happy with what I've produced; a little selection of photos with Autumn/Winter tones. You can feel the chill of the -1° temperatures, but also see the last glimpse of Autumn still pushing through in the orange and brown colours. For me; Autumn is the underlying season that runs through them all; it veers it's head during all months to remind us why we love it so much.
