A look inside my Camera Bag through out the years...

We all start somewhere; and your equipment does not define you as an artist! I remember when I first started exploring the art form of Photography, when all I had was a little sliding point and shoot and a 10 second timer, I still enjoyed the work just as much and people still saw the vision; despite the serious lack of depth of field and all the snazzy quirks that are now popular!

2008 Camera Bag;

Let's go back to 2008; My best friend at the time was experimenting with photography and I jumped right on the that bandwagon. I was shooting with a Fujifilm Finepix; which you can strangely still buy secondhand, and used to run back and forth to try and get a shot. No tripod, no lens changes, just fun!

This photo was taken in the corridor of my parents house! I'm wearing an ensemble of odd primark socks and primark (very dirty) plimsolls.

This was my first real go at editing; both pictures were taken on my Fujifilm Finepix and I used some free editing sophware off google, which probably gave me a virus haha. But I'm very happy with it considering my lack of experience and the quality of the images. I hasten to add that a lot of people chose to draw attention to the fact that one of the 'me's' has no legs.... oops!

2009 Camera Bag;

Canon 450D (they don't sell any more but Canon 750D is a good alternative)

I bought this camera with my own money; and I was insanely proud. It came with a Kit Lens which was the Canon 18-55mm and I used this on it's own for a long time! It was a good starter camera and I loved it so much!

One of my absolute favourite shots. Technically it's horrendous, it's back lit, my face is in shadow and it's underexposed, but all that sort of adds to it's character if you ask me!

A tripod my it so much easier to shot portraits; as I could manipulate the height etc of the camera; rather than having to find something to perch it on out and about! As I didn't have a remote I used to focus the lens on my school bag (which I would place where I was going to stand) and then set to manual focus, run back and forth over and over!

2010 Camera Bag;

Canon 450D (they don't sell any more but Canon 750D is a good alternative)

In 2010 I added the 50mm f1.8 to my collection, by far the game changer in my photography journey! It's a great lens for anyone looking to create stunning depth of field, while on a budget!

2011 Camera Bag;

Canon 60D (they don't sell this anymore but the Canon 80D is the current alternative)

2011 brought the Canon 60D and Canon 28mm f1.8 into my camera bag. I sold my 450D to a friend - along with the kit lens and bought myself, what felt like, my own child! The Canon 28mm f1.8 is a sturdy lens which lasted me 6 years (unfortunately this year it broke and I haven't had a chance to replace it). It was a sound lens and it allowed me to take a step closer to subjects; which used to frustrate me about the 50mm - you had to be so far out to get your whole subject in frame. If you're looking for a fairly inexpensive fit lens to work along side your 50mm; this is the one for you! The Canon 60D is STILL in my camera bag; which is insane. I'm currently saving for a new lens; then it's camera time!

(It's so scary looking back at these pictures! That doesn't even look like me anymore.)

I also invested in a remote for my camera - allowing me to take photos like this. It meant that I didn't need to prefocus the camera using my school bag or run back and forth so many times to hit the shutter button! It made life SO much easier to take self portraits.

2012 Camera Bag;

This was the year I hung my camera up; my Mother passed away and I found it hard to take photographs. She was amazing and, to be honest, she was my confidence. I had none but she kept me doing this, so when she was gone, so was that confidence... and it didn't come back properly for years. I pushed through to complete my A-Level in Photography (ending up with a near perfect mark I might add!) and then I had a break.

I definitely think that the Pictures I took during this period were some of my most emotive pieces of art.

When I came back from University on October 13th 2012, I recreated the shot I taken back in 2009. The same bench but a very different version of me. I contemplate recreating it again one day, but I'm worried it will be too emotional.

2017 Camera Bag;

Canon 60D (they don't sell this anymore but the Canon 80D is the current alternative)

Well how it's changed over the last 8 years. I am so grateful for all the equipment I have, I've worked hard to save up for it and I know that I can continue to do so! The past 6 months have really brought back my love for photography and I am happy with the work I am producing. I'm proud of how far I've come and I want to continue to grow; taking photography with me throughout my life.

Future Camera Bag (Wish List);

The future is bright. You are worth it! Believe in yourself.
